With the recent increase in bacterial infections and the shortage of Strep A antibiotic drugs such as penicillin and amoxicillin, Wavedata thought it worth looking at all the antibiotics used in the community in the UK to see which have experienced the greatest price rises.
Therefore we started with a total list of 649 antibiotics, of which 231 are commonly prescribed by community doctors (GPs) in the UK. Of these we found that 80 of the most commonly used products have seen price rises this year.
Those which now cost pharmacists and dispensing doctors more than double the January price are included in the list below, and the majority are shown on the graph. Only Ampicillin Caps 250mg 28 has been omitted from the graph as its price is normally above £20.00 which does not fit on the graph.
